Hey folks, well, I have some disappointing news. I am returning home. I should be back for the weekend. Peace Corps/The Gambia and I have decided that I should 'Early Terminate for Medical Reasons'. The specifics would require a lengthy explanation, but basically, in order for me to get some medical attention sooner than later I need to come home. This isn't anything too serious more than likely. It's just that the bureaucratic higher-ups beyond the in-country level and I have differing opinions about the type of healthcare I should receive and, foremostly, when that care would be received. There are no hard feelings between the Peace Corps and myself. Obviously, I would rather be staying, especially considering the excitement I had for my site. However, the people within PC that need to know what is going on and why I am leaving know, understand, and support me with my decision. It is a bit devastating to have a year of anticipation and preparation come crushing down on you, but so it is. Hopefully, I will be able to reapply in time and start a whole new adventure... although all things indicated that here was going to be quite special. I hope to see all of you that I can when I get back to Kentucky.
